Mission Possible 2023

Mission cn

Ten years after the 2013 flood, Mission Possible 2023 was held on Saturday, June 17. This event started in 2013 shortly after the flood waters receded and clean up was underway. It was put together in four days. It was held in the parking lot of Safeway. A refrigerated Safeway trailer kept the food cold until it was cooked.

It has been held annually since then with the exception of COVID years. In 2014, then Mayor Nenshi started Neighbour Day with many communities in Calgary participating. We have continued to hold Mission Possible on Neighbour Day. Basically, we were the first Neighbour Day.

Most Mission Possible events have been held in the park adjacent to the community centre. The only exceptions have been years when it rained or threatened rain which was the case this year.

All Mission Possible events have included food and music. This year Moonlight Ryders provided the music, which based on the smiling faces, was enjoyed by all. We got the food from South Block BBQ, and it was delicious – BBQ beef sandwiches. In addition, there was a bar for grown ups.

We received $55 in donations for the Calgary Food Bank.

MLA Joe Ceci and Councillor Courtney Walcott came for a visit.

Thank you to volunteers Lucy Arellano, Ken Hryciw, Brandon Hossack, and Bruno Frost.
