Fall has arrived, and for all those who used some of their extra time at home this spring and summer to try their hand at growing vegetables and other plants, either on your balcony, in your yard, or at the community garden, we hope you’re enjoying a bountiful harvest. Renfrew’s Community Garden, with its mix of private planters and the edible forest, looked lush and healthy this summer. If you’re interested in learning more about gardening, renting your own plot next season, or getting involved, you’ll find a team of friendly, enthusiastic gardeners who are ready to help. We feature regular articles on the garden in this newsletter, and you can also check out the Renfrew Community Gardens page on Facebook for more information.

Next month is the Renfrew Community Association’s Annual General Meeting, where we bring everyone up to speed on community initiatives and finances, and elect new members to the Board of Directors. The meeting is scheduled for Friday, November 20 at 7:00 pm and we encourage everyone in Renfrew to attend; this is your community and we want to hear from you. Don’t forget to purchase your membership at least 30 days in advance so you can vote!

We also hope to welcome some new members to the board — we’re always looking for fresh perspectives and new ideas. If you know someone who would be interested, or want to step up yourself, see the article in this newsletter for more information.

Although the community hall has been quieter than usual in recent months, our hall manager has been very busy dealing with rental cancellations and requests, as well as ensuring the hall meets all COVID-19 guidelines and best practices going forward. In this issue’s Face of Renfrew, we ask Hall Manager Jessica Dergousoff what she’s been up to.
