Monthly Update

Stephanie is planning to host a town hall meeting in October and she invites constituents to come out and share their concerns in person. More details on date and location will be provided in next month’s newsletter. Updated information can also be found at stephaniekusiemp.ca, or at https://www.facebook.com/stephaniekusiepolitician/.

Committee Update

Stephanie is a member of the Standing Committee for Status of Women which has been working hard on several studies. In June, the Committee agreed to start hearings on Women in Politics—namely how to increase female participation. This study should be complete in Fall 2018 at which point Stephanie and her colleagues will be looking into women’s shelters and housing affordability in Canada.

Stakeholder Outreach

Recently, Stephanie had the privilege of meeting with a variety of stakeholders as part of outreach activities in Mississauga, Ontario. Of particular interest were meetings related to her role as Deputy Shadow Minister of Health, including the Multiple Sclerosis Youth Council where she was inspired and informed about the work and challenges that these young people are facing. At the Mississauga Board of Trade Stephanie met with industries involved with Pharmacare and Health Canada. They outlined their concerns in clear terms and we had an excellent roundtable.

Hearing from Constituents

Stephanie was glad to meet with Scott Hierath, Senior Government Relations Advisor for the Credit Union of Central of Alberta and Bill Anderson Government Relations Manager for Servus Credit Union. They had a productive discussion about the tax competitiveness of Alberta Credit Unions and the numerous regulatory challenges they are facing. Stephanie enjoys the opportunity to understand the concerns of constituents and local businesses regarding a wide range of issues. This feedback is invaluable in helping her focus her resources and priorities.

Given her diplomatic service throughout Latin America—as well as her fluency in Spanish– Stephanie is often invited to meet with members of the Latin community.

In conjunction with those meetings, she was also pleased to attend several festivals celebrating Latin heritage, both in Calgary and elsewhere in Canada.
