The Circle of Life: Presidential Hello-Goodbye

At the RCA AGM, we said farewell and sincere thanks to our outgoing president, Anita Raffaele and welcomed long-time resident Kathy Ervin to the role of RCA President. These are two exceptional, hardworking women with similar passions for our community and with strong leadership skills. And with the passing of the torch, we thought we would have a bit of fun as we remember and learn a few fun facts about them and compare their Ranchlands journeys.

What were you doing in 1987?

Anita: I wasn’t born yet.

Kathy: Moving into Ranchlands for our son to be part of the neighborhood where he was going to preschool.

What is your favourite part of Ranchlands?

Anita: The number of green spaces in the community are definitely my favourite. My “happy place” is the mountains, but if I can’t get away, I can head to a park and enjoy a small slice of nature anytime.

Kathy: Any ball diamond! I was involved with softball for many years and spent many hours prepping diamonds, coaching teams, and even umpiring.

What made you choose Ranchlands?

Anita: We have two friends who live in Ranchlands who suggested it, knowing we would love the park spaces and all the mature trees. They were right!

Kathy: It was (and is) a diverse community with many young families, great community, and schools that really promote families and caring for each other.

What is the best change in the Ranchlands?

Anita: In the time since I moved to Ranchlands (2013), I’ve watched a lot of young families move into the community, which has been fantastic, but the best change has been the stronger community support for neighbours helping one another out.

Kathy: Every year the trees get more beautiful, and the amenities in the Crowfoot area make it easy to support local.

What are your hopes for the year ahead for our community?

Anita: I would love to see more community engagement, like volunteers getting involved as well as some community beautification projects.

Kathy: Ensuring that everyone who wants a role in supporting our community and that has ideas to keep us strong, has a voice to share ideas.

Our community has been and will be in good hands with Anita and Kathy. Thanks to you both!
