The Ranchlands Rink – A Legend in Itself

Our Ranchlands rink team is full. Thank you, Ranchlanders!

Did you know, the rink was built in 1991 and was fully operational in 1992.

The rink is full sized and measures 200 feet by 85 feet – precisely the right size for a game of shinny or a chance to practice a toe loop or Salchow!

Over the years, there have been a number of upgrades to the rink to keep it looking up to snuff. Thanks to the Enmax Energizing Spaces Grant in January 2021, the old halogen lights were replaced with high efficiency LED lights with built in photosensors.

Late November 2023, the Ranchlands rink was selected as the filming location for a TV commercial to feature the new lighting system. Despite making the best of plans, sometimes things just take a turn in another direction. First of all, there was no ice thanks to our unseasonably warm early winter. Undeterred the filmmakers used some tricks with camera angles and brought in two to three pick-up trucks worth of snow to set the scene around the player box. Finally, the sun was a bit lower in the sky and it was darker, the photosensors were in full form, bringing on the lights, and the filming successfully began.

So don’t be surprised to see our very own Ranchlands rink featured on a local TV channel or on YouTube.

In case you did not know, the RCA website has a dedicated page for the rink. Very prominently featured on that page is the “rink status”, so everyone can know when the rink is officially open.
