Good day fellow Chaparralians,

As much as many people probably do not want to admit it, winter is just around the corner. Winter is awesome – cold weather, snow, holidays, family visits, parties, great food, and wine. Please enjoy these things responsibly and when you think you have had enough of that holiday cheer, take a cab.

Spoiler alert – Chaparral Community Association will be inviting a certain someone, wearing red clothes and riding a sleigh, for a second and hopefully annual visit to spread some holiday cheer, cookies, and hot chocolate. More details will be coming soon – stay tuned to social media and our website.

I also want to bring up an important safety note about storm ponds in and near our community. Because of the nature of things, the water levels are very unpredictable and can change within minutes. It is very dangerous to be in or near one of these ponds because of this. It becomes even more dangerous when the ice sets in. Because of the ice cover, it is almost impossible to determine the water levels accurately and if the water level drops under the ice and an air gap appears between the surface of the water and the ice cover, ice becomes dangerous. Even thicker ice, when suspended over the water, can become weaker than normal and something that normally can support an adult human may faulter even when a pet jumps on the ice. So, please stay clear of the storm pond; they are not for fishing, or any other recreational activities and we have had many close calls in the community and, unfortunately, a couple of tragedies over the last few years.

Stay safe and enjoy the season!

Anton Ovtchinnikov, CCA President
