Douglasdale Maintenance Association (DMA)

Keeping You Informed, Keeping the Community Attractive

Graffiti

Our community has been very fortunate that it has experienced very little graffiti but when it does, action is taken to have it removed. The most recent occurrence was in October at the main entrance on the gazebo, electrical panel, and gate. The cost of removal was $800, which represents revenue from 13 residences. These are funds that would otherwise be used for such things as flowers, fertilizing, mulching, etc., which improve the community.

If you see graffiti or vandalism, please report to 311 or email the details, with pictures, to [email protected]. Should you witness acts of vandalism, call the police if that seems appropriate. Douglasdale is a very large community and we, as a volunteer board, do not have enough eyes to see everything, so it is important for all residents to be involved and do their part watching and reporting these incidents.

Snow Clearing

Many residents have expressed concern about snow clearing on the streets and on pathways leading to and in playgrounds. Clearing snow from any of these areas does not fall under the Douglasdale Maintenance Association (DMA) Enhanced Landscape Maintenance Agreement (ELM) with the City. The ELM program only covers seasonal landscape activities and winter planters. We do not have any input into which public areas are cleared of snow by the City. If you have concerns, call 311 or contact the councillor for this area, Kourtney Penner. Her email address is [email protected] and her phone number is 403-268-2430.

Did You Know?

The DMA does not have direct access to the funds generated by the tax levy. They are held by the City. When the DMA receives an invoice, it is sent to the City who releases the funds to us and then the vendor is paid. The DMA is monitored and held accountable by the City.

The DMA cannot hire an outside contractor to apply herbicide. The City is advised where we wish to see herbicide applied. They will do an assessment, decide if an herbicide application is necessary, then provide a cost estimate. If the DMA wants to proceed, the City sends trained personnel to apply the herbicide. No other contractor is allowed to do this work.

The Board of Directors for the DMA is made up of five Douglasdale residents who are volunteers.

AGM

Mark your calendar. The Annual General Meeting will take place March 22, at 7:00 pm, at the Eagle Quest Golf Club. This is a great opportunity to ask questions, to learn about the DMA, and for the DMA to hear your concerns, thoughts, and ideas.

Emails of Appreciation

Thanks to everyone who has taken time to send an email expressing your appreciation for what the DMA does. Following is an example.

Dear All:

I want to take a moment to thank you all for the extraordinary work you do to increase and maintain the beauty of Douglasdale.

My husband Dennis and I have been living here for just over a year now. When we drove into the area to look at purchasing our home, we were taken aback by how lovely the whole area is.

The gorgeous arrangements of flowers in the boulevards, the stunning trash cans…who has such lovely places to throw dog poop bags, I say? The way the Ridge is maintained and all of it.

I know that all of you have busy lives and from our perspective your gift to all of us is greatly appreciated.

Gratefully,

Dennis and Kate Wiedrick
