as the School Year Wraps Up
As the school
year winds down, school zones remain busy with end of year activities, special events,
and warmer weather, encouraging more walking and wheeling. Parking rules around
schools are designed to keep these busy spaces safe for children, families, and neighbours.
Unsafe parking—such
as blocking crosswalks, stopping too close to corners, or double parking in the
roadway—can reduce visibility and create dangerous situations for children trying
to cross the street. Even brief stops can increase the risk of close calls during
peak drop-off and pick-up times.
To help keep
school zones calm and predictable, drivers are encouraged to park legally, leave
space at corners and crosswalks, and avoid stopping in bus zones or travel lanes.
Parking a short distance away and walking the last block can significantly reduce
congestion and improve safety for everyone.
