Things can and do change, and quickly. The newsletter is not frequent enough to communicate things that are changing on short notice in regards to the community association, the community centre, and community events.

So, in order for us to keep you up to date, please register your email address near the bottom of the first page of our website. Our email list is then updated to include your email address. The website address is www.cliffbungalowmission.com.

Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting was held on Wednesday, November 22. The theme of our AGM was celebrating our community. We had lots to celebrate as was evident from the reports presented.

The following is the new board for the next year: Bob Lang – President, Rick Williams – Secretary, Lucy Arellano – Treasurer, Zaak Karim – Planning and Development Director, Robin Thompson – Environment Director, Sameena Darr – Communications Director, Lucy Arellano Social Director and Directors at Large Bruno Frost, Brandon Hossack, Nick Kuhl and Mo Saiepour.

The Vice President and Heritage Director positions were not filled. If anyone is interested in exploring these positions, please contact me at [email protected].

Five people were presented with Community Hero Awards – two at the AGM and three at the December 6 jazz event. More details are provided elsewhere in this issue.

Many people helped during the last year. We thank everyone who helped make this a successful year.

Thank You to Retiring Board Members

A number of people stepped down from the board at the AGM or during the year. Isaiah Dobni, Catherine Carlyle, and John Mikhayel, we thank you for everything you have done for the organization and the community.

Celebrating 45 Years

The community association was incorporated as a registered society on November 29, 1978. So, we celebrated 45 years of community service in November 2023. Leslie Evans, Executive Director of the Federation of Calgary Communities, presented a certificate to Bob Lang at the AGM marking this anniversary. Many volunteers over the years helped do all the things we have done and accomplished during the last 45 years. Thanks to all who have contributed.

We Had to Set Up an Extra Table at Our Potluck on December 3

We had more people than average at our potluck on December 3, we even added an extra table and chairs. This is a great sign during this busy season. Elis and Murray Hiebert provided song books and led everyone in song. Thanks to them for doing this. Next potluck is Sunday, January 14.

Attendance was Great at Our December 6 Jazz Event

The largest turn out of the current jazz season occurred on December 6. It was basically standing room only. Lorna MacLachlan is always a popular jazz performer. You have the opportunity to enjoy these events close to home at an inexpensive cost. The next jazz event is on Wednesday, January 10. Come early to get a good seat and enjoy various beverages.

Casino on January 21 and 22

We have an important casino fundraiser on Sunday, January 21 and Monday, January 22. There are usually last-minute changes that create volunteer vacancies that need to be filled. For more information, contact Bob at [email protected].
