Signal Hill Community Association’s January President’s Message

2024 is here! Last month it looked like we were not going to have any snow, but just past mid-way through we received a gentle dusting. It was not a lot, but it provided us with a festive season. To add to that, drive by the rink. We have been trying to add a splash of colour to the site. While we did not do this strictly for the season, it certainly adds another attractive dimension to our community!

In addition to directors handling individual files, all our directors are cloistered in three committees. In that fashion there is less of a burden on all. The committees are Governance, Engagement, and Community Life. Each has a Chair. I am Chair of the Governance Committee, while Rob Leong our Vice President chairs the Engagement Committee, and Terry McGuire is Chair of the Community Life Committee. It is not the function of a Committee Chair to provide another layer of leadership over the directors as they carry out their work on your behalf, but rather to act as a point of contact to provide additional resources and support to other directorships. It also allows for other volunteers to work on projects as needed.

Having said all of that, we still have room for several positions on the board. We still are looking for a Treasurer. We also need a Maintenance Director as well as a Membership Director. Another key volunteer role that is not on the board level is a Rink Coordinator. Our skating program for this season is in jeopardy if this key role is not filled.

Curtis Lesperance, our Technical Director has been working hard to deliver a new webpage for all. Check it out. When you get this message, it should be up and running. One of the new features will be a section to introduce visitors to the people who are part of the fabric of Signal Hill. While we will start with those who serve on the board, it will not be exclusive to them. It’s open to anyone who either lives, works, or even plays in our community.
