Set yourself (and your family) up for success: lessons from a certified instructor are the best way to ensure the immediate enjoyment of any new sport, especially Nordic skiing.

First timers: it is best to start with classic skiing; get comfortable and confident, then graduate to lessons on the proper skate skiing technique if one is interested in that. Skate skiing requires different equipment from classic skiing.

Ski lessons in Calgary are available through several different organisations, with some offering weekly ski lessons for both kids and adults in separate programs. Different prices go with the different organizations.

Gear: Buying appropriate gear ensures success. There are good Nordic ski shops in Calgary whom have very knowledgeable staff. When buying for the first time whether it is used or new, make sure you get advice from someone knowledgeable in Nordic skis and ski fitting.

Classic and skate skiing can be fast or slow, it depends on you! Everyone has a pace that fits their current physical fitness, skill level, and energy level that particular day.

The great thing about Nordic skiing is with it being so accessible, one can ski for an hour or shorter and go on to other activities while not having to drive out of town! Go forth and have some fun this winter!
