A circuit is a combination of exercises that you perform back to back with little rest. It’s a great way to condition your body by improving your strength and endurance. Circuits are great for those who get bored easily as there are many different types of circuits. To create your own workout, consider the following:
What Do You Want to Accomplish?
Cardio or strength-focused circuits? High-Intensity Interval Training circuits? A combination of the two? The possibilities are endless.
Choosing Exercises
This is dependent upon what you want to accomplish. However, a good place to start is to incorporate a lower body, upper body, core, and cardio exercise in your routine.
Time
Short on time? Tailor the workout to the time you have available. For instance, instead of completing 4 sets, do only 3 sets, but make sure you’re working at full intensity.
Location
Traditionally, in a circuit workout, you are continuously moving from one station to the next. It’s good if you have the opportunity to go outside and set up stations, but physical stations are not necessary. A circuit can be done in your living room.
Below is a circuit which includes familiar exercises that you can do anywhere, no weight required!
Station Exercises
1 Squats
2 Push-ups
3 Lunges
4 Abdominal crunches
5 Jumping Jacks
Perform each exercise for 30 seconds – no breaks! Take a 1-minute break after you complete all of the exercises; complete 4 sets.
You don’t need a personal trainer or a fitness class to get a good workout. You’re now armed and ready to put together a workout that meets your needs.
