Hello Calgary-Acadia,
My job is to ensure the needs and concerns of Calgary-Acadians are heard by the Provincial Government. As the Childcare and Child and Family Services critic, I helped families through the E. coli outbreak, fought to ensure the availability of safe, affordable childcare, and highlighted the challenges of the overwhelming cost of living crisis.
Question Period has given me the opportunity to bring your priorities to the government. We are working to make sure safe and affordable childcare is available to everyone who needs it. There are rent increases of over 40% in Calgary-Acadia. The NDP Opposition has addressed the need for affordable housing with a proposal for a temporary 4% rent cap. We have listened to folks struggling to find a family doctor and have pushed this government to recognize that primary care is the foundation of our healthcare system and needs to remain public and protected.
Since the start of the year, we have handled over 100 cases. Health, childcare, and 2SLGBTQ+ issues have accounted for over 50% of the cases in 2024. Previously, our biggest issues were pensions, health, and energy.
This month we met with the Calgary Food Bank, answered questions at the Francis Klein Centre, and toured eight of Calgary-Acadia’s 48 schools. We also shared a town hall meeting with Calgary-Glenmore, celebrated South Centre Mall’s 50th anniversary, and talked to many, many stakeholders and individuals within the constituency.
The next sitting of the legislature begins on February 28. With that in mind, we will be showing up on doorsteps every weekend, so check out my social sites to see where we will be!
