Hello Fairview,
Here we are in June and while we
are almost into summer, Calgary is still deciding whether it wants to snow
again! As we approach our summer break over July and August, I wanted to
provide you some updates.
Board and Volunteers
We’ve welcomed three new Board
members recently: Joy Lusk, Laura Eeckhout, and Jon Mazur; making a total of five
new Board members in the past eight months. It’s great to have some new people
stepping up with new ideas and energy! At the same time, there is ample
opportunity for you to volunteer and support your neighbours and community. Thanks
to all of our new and ongoing volunteers that have helped over past few months!
If you have ever thought about helping out, now is a good time to reach out.
Annual General Meeting
Our AGM is coming up on Tuesday,
June 9 at 6:30 pm at Flavelle Park (45 Flavelle Road SE). I’ll be honest, not
every part of an AGM is thrilling entertainment, but it does give people a
chance to see what actually goes on in the community association. More than
once this month I heard someone say, “I had no idea how much the board does.”
That alone tells me we’re doing a lot of work quietly in the background, which
honestly is probably how it should be.
Events
We’ve already had a busy 2026 with
the Parade of Garage Sales, Spring Fling, watercolour classes, golf simulators,
and other community events. A huge thank you goes to the volunteers and
especially the Eisenbart family, who have been leading many of these spring
events for years now and absolutely knock it out of the park every time. Events
like these do not happen by accident. They take a lot of planning and volunteer
hours.
Community and Connection
One thing I’ve thought about a lot
during our membership drive is how special Fairview still is. We go
door-to-door to over 1,200 homes every year talking to our neighbour’s face to
face — not many communities still do that anymore.
That little bit of connection still
matters. Taking two minutes to chat with someone, wave while walking by, help
somebody shovel, carry something, or check in on a neighbour, costs nothing.
The world has enough people shouting at each other online already. Fairview has
always been better when we actually know the people living right next door.
That’s a big part of what makes
this community great.
Hope to see you at the AGM!
