Updating our Community Greenspaces

As our days get longer and our weather turns nicer, we all have a desire to get out more; go for walks in our community, visit our parks, hang out with friends around a fire. Spring is here in Oakridge with maybe a few reminders that winter isn’t too far behind us.

What makes you want to get out in our community? What parks do you want to go to when the weather turns nice? Are there other communities that you visit that have amazing greenspaces you wish we had in our community? At Oh MY Oakridge we are interested in hearing which parks you enjoy most in Oakridge and why, as well as what you want to see in our communities to make our parks better. You can reach out to us through our Facebook page or support one of our fundraisers and chat with us there.

Our next in-person fundraiser, on April 9, is a FUNDrive collection. Bring your gently used clothes and household goods to the Oakridge Community Association and we will collect it all to take to Value Village. Through FUNDrive and Value Village, we receive a donation based on the weight of our collection in the following categories:

Soft Goods in bags: clothing, shoes, accessories, linens

Housewares in boxes: kitchen items, décor, toys, games, small appliances

In April, we are also launching our Spring Plant Fundraiser. A link will be available on our Facebook page on April 1 for amazing quality bedding plants, vegetables, and herbs that you can pick up right here in our community. The plant fundraiser will run through April 28 and pick up will be on May 14 at the Oakridge Community Association.

Don’t forget to let Skip the Depot do the hard work for you by collecting your empties. Skip the Depot makes bottle and can pick-up easy and allows you to donate your refund to a group of your choice. This year, please consider signing up for Skip the Depot and donating your refunds to the Oakridge Community Centre where your refund is donated to this important initiative. It is easy to do; simply download the Skip the Depot app, sign up, schedule a pickup specifying that you want your refund to go to the Oakridge Community Centre, leave the bottles outside, and they’ll come pick them up for you!

For more information about our fundraisers and engagement sessions, you can find us on the Oakridge Community Association website or on Facebook. We also have a number of roles that are vacant on our team and would love for you to join us. Reach out for more information to [email protected].
