Greetings Ward 12,

The combination of warmer days and the reemergence of in-person events has been buoying my spirits lately—I truly hope that these and other spring events find you feeling similar. We have all been through a lot of challenges over the past couple years and I continue to be amazed by the resilience of the people in Ward 12. The countless stories of people standing together on their blocks, alongside co-workers, supporting family members, and looking out for those that have been impacted the most is truly inspiring.

My team and I recently volunteered for a shift at Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids (BB4CK), and I was again reminded that the impacts of COVID-19 will be with us for a long time. Ward 12 continues to show strong social resilience in the face of the challenges we are facing but organizations like BB4CK are finding that they are being relied upon more and more. It was a great reminder that while optimism for the future is well warranted, we need to remember that the impacts have been widespread and extremely disruptive to many Calgarians.

Thankfully, Alberta appears to be at just the beginning of another strong economic season, and this is showing up in Calgary in many ways already. A poll of business leaders across the globe regarding who would consider Calgary for a future expansion went up from 44% to 77% in a single year. We are seeing strong signs that the diversification of our economy is well underway, and Calgary has a bright future.

As Council progresses through the four-year budget preparations, I would love to hear from you. The in-depth discussion begins in earnest in September, but I will be looking to understand and compile the needs of Ward 12 well before then. Please reach out to my office at [email protected] if you would like to highlight something or head over to engage.calgary.ca/yourservices to share your thoughts.
