Hello Crescent Heights,

It’s autumn now but we sure had a good dose of warm/hot weather from mid-August to early September. When the first ever Crescent Heights Night Market was held in Crescent Park in mid-August, the warm weather probably contributed to all the positive feedback that was expressed to our board members.

It’s been a good year for your board. Thanks to increased post-Covid hall rental revenue and funds from our casino fundraiser, our financial position is much stronger. At the end of 2021, we were issued a high-risk rating from the City but that will not be the case at the end of this year. In addition, our treasurer was able to obtain Covid funding from the City’s pool of funds designated for community association relief.

We used our funds to upgrade our hall to comply with the City’s lifecycle plan and for projects for our community. Most but not all projects involve funding from grants. Most of the time, we must match some or all of the grant funding. It is this need to match grants that makes it critical for us to have cash on hand. With more cash, more projects can be undertaken.

Our membership system is not a source of revenue. Memberships support the City’s legal requirement to show that we represent the residents of Crescent Heights. At our AGM, it is the members who vote on the issues that are raised and on the board of directors. Membership fees pay for our membership system. If a surplus is created, then fees can be adjusted.

Speaking of the AGM (annual general meeting), the date is October 18, 2022. Please join us to review the past year and discuss the future. There may even be some nibblies and refreshments.

We still need a facilities director and assistant treasurer. Just email [email protected] if interested. Youth and diversity are highly desired.

Hope to see you around,

Dennis Marr, CHCA Board of Directors
