October is always a transition, with a return to many familiar routines or the start of new ones. I’m in the swing of things now, and hope that we can continue to enjoy a pleasant fall. At the summer festival, we had many community members come by to share their thoughts and ideas, and we’re now busy using these to plan the next few years for the community association.

All Ages and All Abilities

Have you heard this term before? Often shortened to 5A, it’s used to identify streets that are accessible and safe to people ages 5 to 85. Proper street design and priority corridors have been shown to improve safety and increase active mobility (walking and wheeling). This is especially true with vehicles now larger and faster than they used to be. A proper 5A network allows people to easily move about their community.

These investments don’t happen on their own; organizations such as community associations can help advocate for these changes. This is where we need your help. Let us know if this is a priority for you! Where are your specific concerns? This can include missing curb cuts, crosswalks that reduce detours, or traffic calming measures. We are also looking for interested individuals to work with the board and development committee on these measures. If you’re interested, please contact me at [email protected].

Dry Pond Construction

The past year has been busy with construction around the hall and along the streets in Tuxedo Park. The end is in sight. We expect that most of the park will be returned to green space by October or November, along with the pathways through the park. We will need to wait until spring for the return of the ball diamond and playground.

Ice Rink at 24 Ave and 1 Street NE

With the new dry pond timelines, the community association is looking at opportunities to adopt a rink at the St Paul’s School field. This will require volunteers to help run and maintain the ice surface and coordinate with the City on equipment. Are you interested in helping out? Email [email protected].

Upcoming Events

  • This Halloween, we will be hosting our second annual bonfire at the community hall. We hope you can swing by to say hello and warm up between trick or treating (no matter what age).
  • Our annual Santa event is being planned, but we need your help to make it a success.

If you’re interested in participating or organizing community events, please reach out to [email protected].

Help! We Need a Casino Chairperson

We have a casino fundraiser date coming in spring of 2023. We need someone to help coordinate the volunteers and keep track of the paperwork. This is a great way to volunteer with our community and requires a minimal amount of time.

If you want to find out more, and have something else to share about the community, reach out.
