Cambrian Heights President’s Message

Cambrian cn

President’s
Message

With
May temperatures and longer, sunlit evenings, our park spaces become
increasingly inviting and beautiful to enjoy. To support outdoor activity, we
will once again sponsor our annual Cambrian Heights Family Bike Day on
Saturday, May 30. The event will be held on the east lawn behind the Community
Hall and will feature a bike tune‑up clinic for all ages, along with skills
activities for children. We would like to thank Spencer Cutten and Sangeeta
Jain in advance for annually organizing and running this valued community
event.

Cambrian
Heights has partnered with the Rosemont Community Association to sponsor a
Community Cleanup Day this year, scheduled for Sunday, June 28, at the Cambrian
Heights Community Hall parking lot. This event is also sponsored by the City of
Calgary and annually provides free yard‑waste disposal and recycling services.
The program is available to all Calgary residents, with details posted on the
City website (calgary.ca) and our community websites
(cambrianheightscommunity.com and rosemontyyc.com). We gratefully acknowledge
Rosemont resident Bent Nielsen and Cambrian Heights resident Gary Wilson, who
have managed this event for our communities each year.

We are
also pleased to return to our weekly outdoor Farmers Market beginning in May.
The first market will take place on Tuesday, May 26, from 3:00 to 7:00 pm in
the Community Hall parking lot. This program attracts up to 20 vendors offering
fresh and frozen food products, all operating under provincial and City health
standards. This will be our third year running the market, and we anticipate
continuing through to October 6. Our thanks go to Valerie Valance, a Cambrian
Heights resident, for organizing and managing this market, which has proven to
be very successful.

To help
maintain community facilities and programs, we supplement rental income with
proceeds from casinos operated through Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis
(AGLC). This year, our assigned casino dates are June 8 and 9. While we have a
core group of volunteers, more than 45 positions must be filled. Volunteers
receive a meal and transportation if required, and most find the experience
both fun and rewarding from a community perspective. If you would like more
information about volunteering, please contact CHCA Director David Babich at
403‑860‑3806 or [email protected].

We will
continue to monitor development permit activity in Cambrian Heights,
particularly in light of City Council’s ongoing review of the Blanket Rezoning
regulations enacted in August 2024. A public hearing was held over two weeks to
gather public input on a proposed bylaw to repeal Blanket Rezoning, passed by
Council in December, and to return to the previous 1P2007 Bylaw. On April 8,
Council voted 12 to 3 to give first reading to the proposed bylaw change.
Council will next consider amendments to the bylaw before final approval. We
encourage residents with comments or concerns to contact our Ward 4 Councillor,
DJ Kelly, at [email protected]. In the interim, current regulations remain in
effect, allowing development of up to four units with four secondary suites on
what was previously a single‑family residential lot.
