President’s Message
Howdy Rosemontians!
I want to thank all of the
tremendous coaches and parents for making shinny another big success this year,
despite the challenging weather at times. Thank you to Spencer, Dave, Code, and
Rob for leading the kids. And an absolutely huge thank you to Jean for
organizing another successful season. Organizing and running these programs is
no easy feat and we can’t do it without amazing volunteers like y’all. On
behalf of the whole community, thank you all for donating your time and skills.
We hope everyone had another great
Pub Night on April 18. As always, there were many familiar faces and some new
ones, plus no lack of laughs and memories. Thank you Kris, Mel, and everyone
who helped set up and tear down the event.
We will be hosting our annual
Stampede Breakfast on July 4. If you are interested in helping us make this
another great event, please email us at [email protected]. More hands make
for light work, and it is a ton of fun.
Following the blanket rezoning
approval in 2024, a group of Rosemont residents formed an independent group to
explore placing additional Restrictive Covenants (RCs) on their properties. As
part of this effort, they have also been reviewing existing RCs registered on
Rosemont properties. It has come to their attention that a proposed development
in Rosemont may be subject to an existing RC that could prohibit the type of
development being proposed (a triplex with secondary suites on Chelsea St). It
is important to note that the City of Calgary does not enforce restrictive
covenants — they are a private legal matter, enforceable only through the
provincial courts by affected property owners. The City will issue development
and building permits regardless of any RCs on title. This means that if
residents believe an RC applies, it is up to those property owners with RCs to
understand their options and, if they choose, pursue enforcement through the
appropriate legal channels. A meeting is planned in May regarding this. Please
learn more at RosemontYYC.com/RC or contact [email protected]
(not affiliated with Rosemont Community Association).
We also have all Rosemont
development permits listed on our website at RosemontYYC.com/Permits. You can
click on each row to get details for each permit submitted in the last two
years.
As always, keep looking after
family, your neighbours, and yourselves.
Matthew
