Message from the General Manager

Hello Lake Chaparral!

October marks a noticeable shift around Lake Chaparral.
The busy days of summer are behind us, the pathways are a little quieter, and
our team is well into the work that comes with preparing the property for
another Calgary winter.

Behind the scenes, fall is an important maintenance
season for us. Our team works through winterizing irrigation systems and
equipment, completing seasonal landscaping and maintenance, and preparing our
facilities and grounds for freezing temperatures and snow.

The park remains a great place to get outside
throughout the fall, whether you’re walking the pathways, using the playground
and green spaces, or simply enjoying some time outdoors. As temperatures
continue to drop, please remember that lake conditions can change quickly. Keep
an eye on the safety flags and our website for the most current information
regarding lake access, park conditions, and operating hours.

Fun Fact of the Month: Water is unusual because
it becomes less dense when it freezes. That’s why ice floats instead of
sinking. This also means a lake freezes from the surface downward, while the
water underneath can remain liquid even when the air temperature is well below freezing.

As we head toward the colder months, thank you to
everyone for continuing to help us take care of and enjoy our community spaces
responsibly.

Have a wonderful October and a Happy Thanksgiving!

Take care,

Laura Bruch
