Spring Cleanup

Winter is over and now is the time for
spring cleanups. Dispose of all organic material (leaves, branches, flowers,
etc.) in your green bin. If you bin is full, put waste in a paper yard waste
bag and put out on your regular collection day. Do not dump any debris outside
of your property, in parks, or in other public areas. Hire a contractor, if
necessary, to dispose of excess waste.

Do not forget the swales at the back of
and/or adjacent to your property. They may be filled with leaves and other
material from fall or other waste from spring runoff. Clearing will prevent
water back up during summer rains.

If there is a walkway adjacent to your
property, take some extra time and clear this area as well. Windstorms cause
twigs and branches to collect, which are a tripping hazard and make it
difficult for both those using walking aids and bike riders. The trees in the
community are maturing, so leaves also collect in these areas, along with
paper, cans, etc. Talk to your neighbour on the other side of the pathway, and make
plans to do it together. Tidying these areas will keep Douglasdale an
attractive community and makes your property look better, too.

Off-Leash Areas

We receive complaints about dogs being in
park areas but not on a leash. A reminder that there are no off-leash areas in
the community or along the river. There is wildlife along the river, and each
could prove to be a threat to the other. Be considerate of residents and
animals and follow the bylaw requiring a leash to be used at all times.

Trees

A reminder that the DMA (Douglasdale
Maintenance Association) has no responsibility for trees. They fall under Urban
Forestry, which is a division of City Parks. If you have any concerns about
trees, such as broken branches on the ground, trimming, appearing to be
diseased, etc., please call 3-1-1.

We are on the Web

The Community Association has been very
generous and has given us permission to post on their website. To find us, go
to their website at www.dqca.ca, select ‘About’ and then ‘Douglasdale
Maintenance Association’. We are in the early stages of populating it. If there
is something you would like to see on it, let us know at [email protected].
