Message from the Board
Happy Spring,
Beddington!
May is finally here,
although throughout March and April it seemed doubtful, as we would ever
transition into rain and sun instead of snow! With our hopes high we look
forward to warmer and sunnier days that will help our gardens sprout and our
flowers to bloom. Our Community Association is also growing, and we have been
remiss in officially welcoming our new Secretary, Kristina del Corro and our
new Treasurer, Krutika (Kay) Viegas. They have both been a wonderful asset to
our team, offering fresh insight and innovative ideas towards making our
community even better. We also thank and appreciate our departing board members
for their knowledge and time.
As we look forward to
our upcoming spring and summer events, you may have taken part in the Green
Space Cleanup between Huntington Hills and Beddington Heights that happened at
the beginning of the month. Our board member Wendy Hansen once again
facilitated this cleanup between BHCA and resident volunteers followed by a
thank you BBQ and the turn-out was wonderful. We once again have a beautiful greenspace
to walk and/or sit and enjoy nature. So a huge thank you to all the volunteers
who came out.
For the past two
years, Sleddington has been a new outdoor youth festival that was organized by
a wonderful local couple and former board member. Unfortunately, this year they
are unable to lead the charge so there will not be a third consecutive year. If
anyone is interested in taking this project on in the future, please come to
one of our meetings. They are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month.
Additionally, we have
had a member of our community speak to us about starting a Safety Group that
will look at areas in our community that perhaps need better lighting, signage,
luminous/glow tape, or any other elements that reduce risk to the public
whether driving or walking. If you are interested in this kind of initiative,
please reach out to us via email at [email protected].
Finally, we are
looking forward to planting our Community Gardens, partnering with Sandstone
McEwan for a Community Cleanup (date to be announced) and Parade of Garage
Sales (date to be decided for August). If you have a new initiative that you
would like to present, please feel free to email us or come out and volunteer.
We always look forward to seeing new faces who want to make Beddington Heights
an even better place to live.
Keep a close eye on
whatever method of communication you prefer, whether it is Facebook, our website,
or the Beddington Banner. See you all around the neighbourhood!
