Bridging Two Beautiful Seasons in Citadel!
September bridges two seasons beautifully, offering a mix of lingering summer warmth and the fresh, crisp promise of fall in Citadel. We hope to cling on to our flowers colour and texture as long as nature will allow us.
Our summer ELM program did not disappoint with no two seasons ever alike. June was exceptionally wet and cool despite already being our wettest month on the calendar. After a late planting to reduce the risk of frost, flowers struggled to find the heat and sun necessary to explode into full display. Although they did make a very fine showing, Citadel’s plant choices normally withstand our dry and windy, hot days, and cold nights, and bounce back reasonably well from moderate hail events.
Planter levelling took place later than originally planned but the saturated soil conditions in June promoted settling of some additional planters that are normally stable. Three previously damaged planters were also re-installed.
Some additional initiatives this year are the remediation and improvements of the tree and shrub beds at the entrances along Country Hill Blvd and the entrance on Sarcee Trail. Our iconic brick wall vines are also receiving a rejuvenation plan to ensure these displays are in their best form.
We had to deal with some graffiti on more planters and a friendly reminder not to place garage sale or other signs into our planters. They cut the delicate roots, and vigorous growth could be easily stifled.
