Did You Know?
The City of Calgary
installed air raid sirens in the 50s and 60s. They were installed all over the
city and country as a warning system during the cold war in case of a nuclear
attack from the Soviet Union. Our siren was located on the NE corner of
Southland Drive and 14 Street – what is now the off-leash area. They were
removed in the 1990s. Note: Apparently Bowness still has their siren as a relic
of that era.
