Oakridge Sage Gatherings – Where Caring
and Wisdom Meet Community

We are now in full summer mode, everything
is greening up, flowers are in bloom, and the Oakridge Gardens are growing. We
just cannot get enough of this time of year. Our April presentation was simply
outstanding, the Parkinsons Association delivered a wonderful session to help
us understand Parkinsons Disease 101, the origin, the amazing research, and the
way ahead for people with this difficult disease. In May, Jill Sutherland spoke
to us about Kitchen Food Safety Guidelines, tips, tricks, and tools. A learning
session on Why Food Safety in your home is so important and how to ensure your
kitchen stays out of the Danger Zone!

We will be moving into our summer schedule
at the end of June, continuing with our Coffee Meetups on Tuesdays through the
summer, however our presentations will be on a pause for July and August.
Please watch for all of our continuing news in this space of the ECHO or
on the Bulletin Board at the entrance to the building.

Our presentations have been outstanding,
and we are grateful for all of our community members who love teaching,
talking, and sharing their education and experiences. We are always looking for
speakers and topics, so if there is something you are interested in hearing or
learning more about, please reach out with your ideas to Bruce Sutherland at
[email protected].

Presentations

11:00 am, Second Floor, OCC.

We do suggest registering for these events
as seating is limited; [email protected].

Please note: All speaker series
presentations are by a donation of your choice and mostly held on the second
floor of the Oakridge Community Centre.

Weekly Drop-in Chats

9:15 to 11:15 am, Second Floor, OCC.

Everyone is welcome to join in. We often
have shorter presentations with our coffee, friendly conversations, and
planning sessions for future events and we always welcome newcomers. If you are
interested in attending, meeting new people, making a presentation yourself, or
if you would like to be added to the weekly information email for things
happening for the following weeks, please email Bruce Sutherland at
[email protected]. He always adds an interesting piece of trivia
or history to his email!

June

The presentation for June from AHS had to
be postponed and it will now be in October. Please watch for our presenters
list in the August EHCO. We will plan various group outings in July and
August and will post those in the ECHO and on the Bulletin Board. Stay
tuned.

July

On Sunday July 5, 2026, we will have a
booth set up at the Oakridge Stampede Breakfast. Drop by and pick up more
information on Sage Gatherings and if you have your kids and grandkids with
you. We will have some fun activities for them to do; everyone is a winner!

Caring Committee News

We have a group within Sage Gatherings
whose purpose is to reach out and support those in our neighbourhood in need.
This committee meets every few months to ensure that those who need assistance
are being adequately supported by the group. Caring for one another is a key
pillar of our Sage Gatherings Community. We often visit members in the
hospital, take people to appointments, or to get groceries, and will try to
support and assist with the needs of those who may be infirm, homebound, or
just need help fixing something that is broken. Contact the Caring Committee if
you have any questions, want to inquire about a caring request, or are
interested in a volunteering opportunity in Oakridge. Contact
[email protected].

Weekly Walks

Wednesdays, 10:00 am

We meet every Wednesday, walk together,
head for coffee, and do a lot of catching up!

First Wednesday of the Month: 24 St and 90
Ave SW, southeast Glenmore parking lot, (by the water park).

Second Wednesday: 90 Ave and Oakmount Dr,
Glenmore southwest parking lot.

Third Wednesday: Oakridge Community Centre,
Pathways and Parks in the Neighbourhood.

Fourth Wednesday: South End of BEBO Grove,
Fish Creek Park, different route each month.

We set clear guidelines for the weather and
at this time of year, rain may be the only cause for change. Please check
Bruce’s weekly email for updates on where we are walking. If you are not on the
