Hello Springbank Hill Residents!
I hope that you have been enjoying the summer season, and in particular the great weather along with the loosening of the COVID restrictions, which have allowed us to spend more time with friends and families. While we should remain cautious and manage infection risks, it sure is nice to get back to a more normal life.
I’m pleased to report that the construction of our Springbank Hill Community Garden is finally complete, and the garden is now operational. Many thanks to our fantastic volunteer team who has been overseeing the construction and operation of this facility. Residents who signed up for a garden plot received free use for this partial growing season, with a nominal rental fee due starting in 2022. We do require users to be active members of our community association. If you are interested in joining our garden growers, please check elsewhere in this newsletter for more information. And you are welcome to take to our community park on 26th Avenue to check out the garden area.
You may have noticed that we recently redesigned our logo to reflect the meaning of living in our beautiful community. As you can see in the new logo, which is displayed in this newsletter, we have incorporated hills, trees, and of course, sunshine. The colours of green and goldenrod were selected to reflect the natural beauty surrounding us. The word ‘Belong’ has been added as our tagline to encourage community members to cultivate a sense of belonging in our community and hopefully join our community association. This logo is also fully aligned with our community association vision and mission statements.
We are now well into our work to create the 2021-2022 fiscal year budget and to finalize our 2022 priorities. The board will approve the proposed budget at our September board meeting, and we will present it to our members at the next Annual General Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, October 27 at 7:00 pm. More details to be provided soon. There are two items in particular that we would appreciate feedback from members, either at the AGM or in advance (simply send us an email). First, we are interested in feedback from members on our proposed 2022 adult social event and fundraiser – we are looking for ideas on the format for this event. It has been quite successful in the past, but we haven’t held an event since 2019, so we’re back in the planning phase. Second, we would like your help in prioritizing our next big improvement project using restricted funds provided by AGLC. Our contenders are:
- Add a playground to the community park.
- Upgrade the ice rink on Springbank Blvd.
- Repair the water feature at the park at the end of Springbank Gate SW.
We are also looking at options to upgrade our Montreux ice rink, although that project is complicated due to land ownership by school boards as well as the city. As always, your feedback is appreciated, as we are here to serve the residents of this community.
All the best to all our members and residents of Springbank Hill!
