Tree Tips

Spring is
here at last! The flowers are pushing up, the trees have leafed out, and the birds
are singing. It turns our thoughts to our yards and parks, and the beauty and comfort
they hold. Now is a great time to start planning to add trees to your yard. Trees
offer protection from the summer heat (potential energy savings) and winter winds,
and they increase the value of your property.
Where to
Start?
Selecting
the right tree and the right spot for it can be tricky. However, the City of Calgary
has done much work to ease your decision-making challenge. Planting native species
increases the likelihood of long-term enjoyment and survival. Here are some references
to help in your tree planning, planting, and maintenance.

One last
tidbit.
Keep Trees
Pee-Free
Dog urine
kills trees from the top down by preventing nutrients from travelling from the ground
up the tree. So, when walking your dogs, please get them to save a tree, pee on
a post!
