Summer’s almost here, Cedarbrae!
Each year, about this time, there are big changes that happen at your community
centre. Many of our regular sporting groups move outside for the summer months,
and many of our children’s groups take a seasonal break. Things at the centre quiet
down, and our employees and volunteers transition into work on long-term projects,
renovations large and small, along with planning for the rest of the year. That
slow down also represents opportunities for new groups to come try out our space
or get a new program or sporting group started. It’s a great time to come check
out the spaces we have on offer!

Our Pickleball program will
slow down too, but it’s popular enough that it never truly stops. There will be
available pickleball sessions each week to accommodate those who would rather play
indoors, and as a backup for outdoor players during bad weather. Some of these sessions
will be volunteer lead, and players willing to host are encouraged to get in touch
with our office for a volunteer orientation. If you’ve ever thought of joining our
Pickleball program, it’s a great time, with fewer players and a more relaxed atmosphere.
We’ll also look to accommodate newer players through lessons and guided play. Get
in contact with the centre if you’re interested in learning the game or improving
your skills.

We’re still looking for volunteers
to assist with this season’s reno of our Community Garden beds. The Community Garden
is a popular way for Cedarbrae residents without a yard to get a chance to grow
their own produce and experience the joy of gardening. Upgrading our beds will make
our Community Garden viable for years to come. Please get in touch with the centre
if you can lend us a hand with this important project.

There are some amazing events
happening at the centre this summer. Just this month is our Trunk sale on June 6,
Father’s Day BBQ Class June 14, Neighbour Day June 20, and pre-Stampede lunch on
June 28. Vendor registration for our Christmas Market will open August 4, and our
Community Cleanup is scheduled for September 13. We are also hoping to bring in
a drop-in time for children to use the centre’s gymnasium over the summer. For updates
and summer news, watch this newsletter or drop by the centre to see us during office
hours.

The Mother’s Day High Tea featured
a 50/50 raffle with Kelsey A. winning $457.50. We will hold another 50/50 during
our Stampede Lunch, come join in on the excitement!

The Cedarbrae Community League
Association (CCLA) is guided by a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors, elected
by the members of our community. The Board meets at the Cedarbrae Community Centre
on the second Sunday of every month at 11:00 am, with the exception of July and
August. Want to join us and work to make Cedarbrae an even better place to live,
learn and work in? Volunteer opportunities are available. New ideas and fresh faces
are always welcome, come check us out!
