Oakridge Sage Gatherings
– Where Caring and Wisdom Meet Community
Well, I am not sure we have
truly hit our stride for a full spring, but it is wonderful to feel the warmth and
see the grass turning green! This time of year brings so many wonderful things;
outdoor activities, the gardens begin to show life, and we benefit from the fresh
air and sunshine. It is a prefect mix for setting the tone for the summer speakers
and events.
We want to thank the Alzheimer’s
Association for coming in a helping us understand Parkinson’s Disease. ‘Parkinson’s
101’ had valuable information for those trying to understand or live with this debilitating
disease.
The speaker for the month
of May is Jill Sutherland, an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and Certified Food
Safety Specialist. “Food safety tips for your home kitchen and your summer BBQ!
Tips, Tricks and Tools,” May 27, 11:00 am. This presentation is designed for your
home kitchen.
Jill is also part of the
Oakridge Community Cookhouse team preparing and delivering meals for families and
giving support to caregivers in Oakridge who may be injured, infirm or require helping
hands for a temporary period.
The June presentation will
be on June 17, and will be a speaker from Assisted Living Alberta. Please join Eucal
Cabral as she shares information about living in assisted circumstances in Alberta.
Assisted Living Alberta (ALA) is Alberta’s new provincial assisted living agency
established as a key pillar of the overall refocusing of Alberta’s health care system.
We have our speakers lined
up for the rest of 2026, so there will be many more opportunities for you to attend
speaker’s events in the coming months. Please watch for them in this space of the
ECHO, on the Bulletin Board at the entrance to the building or the website,
The Community Bulletin Board.
We are always looking for
speakers and topics, if there is something you are interested in hearing or learning
more about, please reach out with your ideas to Bruce at
[email protected] – he and our team will endeavor to locate and secure
speakers you would like to learn from.
Presentations
11:00 am, Second Floor, OCC
We do suggest registering
for these events as seating is limited; [email protected].
Please note: all speaker
series presentations are by a donation of your choice and mostly they are held on
the second floor of the Oakridge Community Centre. Please read the ECHO and
watch for posters on the Bulletin Board at the entrance for information.
Our weekly Drop-in Chats
are on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11:00 am (ish) in the main foyer. Everyone is welcome
to join the group. We often have shorter presentations with our coffee, friendly
conversations and planning sessions for future events, and we always welcome newcomers.
If you are interested in attending, meeting new people, making a presentation yourself,
or if you would like to be added to the weekly information email for things happening
for the following weeks, please email Bruce Sutherland at [email protected]
– he always adds an interesting piece of trivia or history to his emails!
Caring Committee News
We have a group within Sage
Gatherings whose purpose is to reach out and support those in our group in need.

Weekly Walks
Tuesdays, 10:00 am
Meet Up
We meet every Tuesday, walk
together, sometimes head for coffee, and always do a lot of catching up!
Oakridge area outdoor walks
during nice weather.
First Tuesdays of the Month:
24 St and 90 Ave SW, Southeast Glenmore parking lot, (by the water park) walk east
to Heritage Park.
Second Tuesdays: 90 Ave and
Oakmount Dr, Glenmore Southwest parking lot; walk west to the Weasel-Head Flats
National Park.
Third Tuesdays: Oakridge
Community Centre, pathways and parks in the neighbourhood.
Fourth Tuesdays: South end
of BEBO Grove, Fish Creek Park, different route each month.
As the weather changes so
do our walking plans. We set clear guidelines for the weather and as snow and ice
begin to accumulate, we will often change the plans above and walk at Chinook Centre.
Please check Bruce’s weekly email for updates. If you are not on the email list,
please send him an email at [email protected].
For any questions, text or
call Gary at 403-831-5682.
We have some wonderful options
through the next two months for attending presentations or getting involved.
