Hello Woodcreek!
Visitors to our newly refreshed website may
have noticed the many volunteer and staff hours our Executive and Board have
dedicated to developing helpful resources on how to plan and organize a
Neighbour Day (ND) event with your neighbours. You can access these resources
directly here: https://www.woodcreekcommunity.ca/get-to-know-your-neighbour. To
encourage participation, we are offering $100 grants to those who register to
host a Neighbour Day event—just click the “Participate in ND 2026” button on the
webpage for full details.
Organizing a simple Neighbour Day
gathering—whether it’s a BBQ, coffee and cookies, or another casual
get-together—is a great way to meet the people around you. We’ve already seen
several successful events and would love to see even more throughout the community.
These gatherings often lead to ongoing connections, such as neighbourhood email
lists or WhatsApp and Facebook groups. Research shows that when we know our
neighbours, our sense of belonging and overall happiness increases. It also
builds trust, creating a community where people look out for one another and
are ready to offer support when needed. Our goal is to make Woodcreek the most
connected community in Calgary, and it starts with simply getting to know your
neighbours. We have volunteers ready to help you plan your ND event—please
reach out at [email protected] if you have questions or
need support. Let’s connect!
In addition to the many ND events happening
throughout June, the WCA will host a free BBQ in conjunction with the Woodcreek
on Wheels event on June 20. Our casino fundraiser takes place June 10 and 11.
We are still looking for a few volunteers—please check availability here:
https://woodcreek.getcommunal.com/volunteer-opportunities/1575.
On June 24 at 2:00 pm, join us for a tree
planting event with the City near the traffic circle on 24 Street, and later
that same evening at 7:00 pm, our Book Club will meet at the hall to discuss
Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus (please register on our website).
Looking ahead, be sure to mark your
calendars for our Stampede Breakfast on July 4.
Finally, don’t forget the upcoming Good
Food Box deadlines: June 1 for June 10 pickup, July 13 for July 22 pickup, and
August 10 for August 19 pickup. Be sure to mark your calendars so you don’t
miss out.
