Brentwood’s
Events Coordinator

Deonte Doslov-Doctor is a
relatively new member on the Brentwood Community Association (BCA) Board.
Little did Deonte suspect that working one volunteer shift at a BCA sponsored
casino would lead to his agreeing to become Brentwood’s Events Coordinator and the
Social Media Representative. But that’s exactly what happened!
Deonte, a residential and
commercial realtor, moved to Calgary from Edmonton three years ago. (We’re glad
that he saw the light!) A friend had recommended that Deonte consider living in
Brentwood. Deonte acted on that suggestion and especially enjoys the
accessibility, quiet, and murals of our community.
As Events Coordinator,
Deonte is striving to offer the community a number of free events. Recently
there has been a Paint Night plus free candies at Halloween. Currently, Deonte
is planning a community Garden Day plus events for Neighbour Day. He also told
me that there have been a number of requests for some community youth
basketball, so he is looking into that.
A new sports activity
seems a “natural” for Deonte as he himself greatly enjoys hiking, rafting, and
snowboarding. He belongs to a men’s Fitness F3 group which meets regularly at
5:30 am and then goes walking followed by time for coffee. For variety, the
group also does such activities as the Calgary Tower stair climb. Besides the
exercise, Deonte tells me that “the group aims to encourage leadership and
combat social isolation.”
In his Social Media role,
Deonte arranges Facebook posts on the BCA web page and places ads for upcoming
events in our community.
