Glendale’s President’s Message for January

Glendale cn

Happy New Year to all of our Glendale friends and families. We hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and that 2024 brings you all good fortune and good health.

Glendale counts on community memberships to help fund our activities and upkeep in and around the community hall, so please take time to visit myglendale.ca to sign up for your membership. It’s only $35 a year and it’s a small way to support the volunteers who help maintain our facilities.

Do you skate at the Glendale outdoor ice? You should be a member. Do you play tennis or pickleball? You should be a member. Do you walk your pet through the park? You should be a member. It’s community volunteers who flood the ice and empty the trash bins where pet owners deposit pet waste. Remember pets should be kept on a leash in the Glendale Community Hall grounds.

Glendale members get to take advantage of our Card Sharks Club (bridge and cribbage). We also have a new Book Club starting this month. And the best part of being member is that you get to bring forward ideas for new programs that the entire community can enjoy.

Very little happens in Glendale without support from some amazing organizations. Glendale has been the fortunate recipient of significant funding from the City of Calgary, the Province of Alberta, and the Federation of Calgary Communities for our recent Community Hall renovation. We also received very generous grants from the Parks Foundation Calgary, the Calgary Flames Foundation, and the Saddledome Foundation that helped to fund our new basketball hoops, and for upgrades to our tennis and pickleball courts. Hopscotch and four-square lines were also added.

The existing tennis courts were well past their typical lifespan and the restoration was greeted with much enthusiasm. The courts have been busy ever since, which was instrumental in bringing people back to our park during the hall renovation.

Thanks to all of these amazing organizations for their support.

Chris Welner

President

The Glendale/Glendale Meadows Community Association would like to thank Parks Foundation Calgary and the City of Calgary for support of our recreation facility upgrades.
